MAK Innovate Ltd. operates its own geotechnical laboratory, equipped with necessary routine testing facilities to ensure accurate and reliable results for our clients. In the event that specialized testing is required, which is not available in our laboratory, we partner with recognized institutions such as BUET and BRTC to provide the required test results.
Our equipment is manufactured to the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards, ensuring quality and compliance with international benchmarks.
In Bangladesh, Standard Penetration Test (SPT) is often performed by untrained laborers, which can result in the following limitations:
- Height of fall is not properly maintained. Most of the time, the height exceeds what is specified in ASTM standards.
- SPT spoon often doesn’t comply with ASTM specifications, and the driving shoe of the spoon is usually sharper than required.
- Undisturbed sampling using Shelby tubes is significantly disturbed due to the use of low-quality Shelby tube samplers.
The SPT N value is an important indicator of soil shear strength. A larger N value indicates greater shear strength. Due to the limitations above, the SPT N value we obtain is often lower than the actual value, which can lead to overestimated foundation costs.
At MAK Innovate Ltd., we address these issues by using an Auto Hammer for more accurate SPT N value results. Our Auto Hammer is manufactured according to ASTM specifications, ensuring precise data collection in the field. We also use high-quality Shelby tubes, which are the first of their kind in Bangladesh, manufactured by us, and now used by BUET as well for undisturbed soil sampling.
